The newly released flagship enzyme blend, Fibrenza, from HCP Formulas, Tempe, AZ, utilizes advanced technology in a time-release capsule that offers the benefits of enteric coatings, without the use of synthetic chemicals.
 
Systemic enzyme use is at an all-time high, according to Heather Lewis, brand manager at HCP Formulas. She attributes much of the increased usage to social media. “Ten years ago, systemic enzymes were mainly considered as a natural remedy for pain and inflammation. A major drawback of many of the systemic enzyme blends available has been the composition of the enteric coatings, some of which contain phthalates (plasticizers). Enteric coatings are also used in pharmaceutical drugs and are necessary to prevent stomach acids from destroying the enzymes before they are absorbed in to the bloodstream.
